The unexplained and seemingly spontaneous fires allegedly began happening after a sage visited the house.
A peculiar story out of India this month tells of a family from Kachauri village in the Indian state of Bihar who had been forced out of their home by a spate of mysterious fires.
According to reports, the phenomena had began after the house was visited by a sadhu (holy man).
The sadhu had asked for bread, but when he learned that they didn't have any and was offered rice and water instead, he was said to have become angry and cursed the building, stating as he left that it would catch fire.
A few days later, sure enough, a fire broke out - then another - and another.
The fires would begin seemingly out of nowhere, sometimes piles of clothes would begin to burn out of the blue, while other times it was bedding or foodstuffs.
With no electricity connection to the home, it was unclear how these fires were being started.
The problem became so bad that the family ended up having to leave and have since been living with their belongings on the roadside, too scared to return to their own abode.
The case has prompted a great deal of speculation, with many locals blaming black magic for the phenomenon, while others maintain that the fires had been started deliberately.
A local community leader who visited the family has called for a proper investigation to be carried out.
As things stand, however, no definitive explanation for the mysterious fires has been forthcoming.
