The site, which offers a huge collection of declassified government documents, saw its archive disappear overnight.
Founded and maintained by researcher John Greenewald Jr., The Black Vault has - since 1996 - offered up an enormous archive of declassified files on everything from UFOs and aliens to secretive CIA mind control and remote viewing experiments.
On the night of February 20th, however, something went very wrong.
Mere hours after President Trump had announced that he would be ordering agency heads to release all their files on the UFO phenomenon, the entire archive held at the Black Vault disappeared.
According to Greenewald Jr., the issue wasn't hardware failure or file corruption - someone had seemingly logged into the server and deleted the files deliberately.
Exactly how someone had achieved this remains unclear - an investigation by the hosting provider seemed to show that the directory permissions had mysteriously changed.
On the plus side, Greenewald Jr. had kept a secure backup of everything that was deleted and was able to restore the files to the server shortly afterward, ensuring very little downtime.
How this happened in the first place, however, remains a mystery that has yet to be solved.
