The body of the unidentified individual had been discovered wearing a wetsuit in a reservoir in a remote part of Wales.
It's a mystery that has gripped the British public for nearly two years and today, despite an extensive investigation and multiple police appeals, the enigma seems no closer to being solved.
The man, who was discovered wearing a wetsuit and carrying no identifying information, was spotted by a member of the public floating in Claerwen Reservoir - a large body of water in the remote Elan Valley area of Wales.
Police conducted a major search of the surrounding area, but were unable to find anything to indicate who the man was or how he had even got there.
They found no tents or camping equipment, no personal belongings, no vehicles and no witnesses - it was almost like the man had dropped out of the sky.
It was thought that he may have been in the water for up to 12 weeks before being discovered.
"The wetsuit that he was wearing was classed as an XXL size which gave us a weight range of approximately 200 to 220 pounds," said Det Insp Anthea Ponting of Dyfed-Powys Police.
"And that is pretty much what we were able to establish from our initial inquiries."
Now, in a renewed bid to find answers, experts at Liverpool John Moores University have used forensic evidence collected by the police to create a facial reconstruction of the man.
It is hoped that someone who knows him will recognize him and come forward.
"We have now been provided with a very clear and detailed estimation of what the man could have looked like, which I sincerely hope will result in some positive information coming forward," said Ponting.
