Newly unearthed footage reportedly proves that the famous clip of a walking Sasquatch is nothing but a hoax.
There are few pieces of cryptozoological evidence as widely debated as the Patterson-Gimlin footage - a video filmed in 1967 in Northern California which offers a clear view of a large bipedal ape-like creature walking along a creek bed.
Roger Patterson maintained until his death in 1972 that the footage was genuine, while Gimlin always denied that he had been a part of a hoax to create the clip.
Many argue that the creature in the footage was simply a person wearing a costume, while others remain adamant that it represents genuine evidence that Bigfoot is the real deal.
Disagreement over the nature of the clip has been ongoing for more than 58 years.
Now, though, a new documentary by filmmaker Marq Evans claims to have indisputably exposed the footage as an "incredible hoax".
Entitled Capturing Bigfoot, the documentary includes previously unseen footage to help make the case that the creature filmed that day in 1967 by Patterson and Gimlin was a person in a costume.
While you'll need to watch the documentary to get the full story, the new footage essentially shows a "trial run" of the scene in the original clip, thus proving once and for all that it had been staged.
"It took me maybe nine months to realize what we really had," said Evans.
"What we eventually found out is that [this new footage] represented a trial run, a rehearsal that was never discarded."
Capturing Bigfoot is screening now at the 2026 SXSW Film & TV Festival and should see a wider release later this year.
Good point, I have to say I find it hilarious over the years the things experts etc claimed to have seen making a suit "impossible" they can watch the new doc and see the suit like never before in the rehearsal film or dry run as meldrum called it.
If it's the same suit. If nothing else I could see using the dry run to tweak some details. That said, I've never seen a detailed refutation of the alleged proportional details other than a few comments about extensors that didn't understand what was being claimed.
One big thing this "dry run" puts to rest is all the claims it can't be a man in a fur suit because of this or that plus claims of seeing stuff that simply isn't in the original resolution, BH says its obviously not him in the suit in the rehearsal and it "looks" like it's likely Patterson BIL, that is a real gem.
Again, if it's the same suit. and again it'll be interesting to see how it's put together what with all the zippers and whatnot spotted over the years.
Of course not...? I find it more than just mildly amusing there are people gullible enough to believe them. Still, they are bigfoot experts I suppose. It must be quite a feather in the cap to be one of those. Yet despite such expertness, I think I'll wait until they come up with an actual bigfoot to measure. I'm expecting that to happen right around the time that jesus returns. lol
It's the suit You are making conditions and moving goal posts before seeing the new doc, spoiler alert, the new doc shows what is likely Patterson bil in what is obviously the pgf suit, it's an old made at the time rehearsal film or as likely the most firm pgf believer the late meldrum called it, a dry run, if you require a run down of how its made etc then sorry bout your luck, go high five munns and others unable to face the truth. Tip: Use your posting efforts to see the new doc.
These believers have right to be crest fallen, 60 years of pseudo proof to them is put to rest, think about the lost income for profiteers like munns, the embarrassment to reputations like meldrum, the end of forum debate about zippers and fur. Perhaps a silver lining just because this new doc puts the pgf to rest doesn't mean bigfoot isn't real, rather than tantrum in forums about a doc they haven't seen yet perhaps use that energy to get out of their lazy boy and go out in the woods and prove their beliefs, I won't rush them to return.
A look around the internet at bigfoot sites indicates the faithful aren't taking it well. To say the least. lol If bigfoot gets people outdoors that's good. For those of us who think this a folkloric, socially driven phenomena, Joe Rogan (of all people) made a quite astute demographic observation after spending time with bigfoot researchers for a show he had (Joe Rogan Questions Everything). He wondered where all of the Asian and coloured researchers were? Or as he put it (far less kindly) bigfoot research was mostly a group of "unf---able middle aged white males" wandering around thee bu... [More]
Meldrum sadly passed away during this new documentary but he did get the news he was wrong basing so much for so long on the pgf being real, I might speculate he knew but was in too deep like John Green using casts he knew were fake to show real bf tracks, Cryptozoologists are self made, imagine being a self appointed expert at something unproven, and they do profit off this in many cases its their living, so imagine a guy like munns wrote books for profit hoe the pgf is real has another book about it coming out and this bombshell drops, makes him look like a dolt. Sadly I lost respect for a l... [More]
