Researchers allegedly find 'second Sphinx' beneath the Giza Plateau

Italian researchers claim to have discovered evidence of a second Sphinx and 'megastructures' beneath the ground.
The remarkable claim comes courtesy of Filippo Biondi, and colleagues, who you may remember had last year found what they believed to be an extensive complex deep beneath the Giza Plateau.

At the time, their discovery was met with some considerable skepticism, with critics arguing that the team's interpretation of their radar readings was flawed and that their claims were premature.

Now, the same researchers are back again - this time with the claim that they have found a second Sphinx beneath the existing one.

According to Biondo, lines drawn from the pyramids to the Sphinx point to a mirrored location under which this previously undiscovered second Sphinx is thought to be buried.

"We are finding precise geometrical correlation, 100 percent of correlation, in this symmetry," he said during an appearance on the Matt Beall Limitless podcast.
"We are very confident to announce this... we have a confidence about 80 percent."

One long-running clue to the existence of a second Sphinx is the Dream Stele - found between the two paws of the existing Sphinx - which shows two Sphinx-like figures.

This has lead to speculation that there was (or still is) a second Sphinx somewhere.

Given the criticism surrounding Biondo's claims, however, it's difficult to know if he has actually found something of significance here or if this is a case of misinterpreted radar data.

If there really was a second Sphinx or a large underground complex beneath the Giza Plateau, it would be one of the greatest discoveries in all of archaeology.

All the more reason, then, to be cautious about such claims without verifiable, concrete evidence.

You need to define who "you" is.

You need to define who "them" is.   Wep, I'm not the one inferring/professing deep knowledge, or publishing books on the subject.   ∫   However, one (we) do not need to be a student of Egyptology to recognize symbolism-s in  ancient archetypal images.   'Lion' is a complex being, with a number of significant attributes. Hence the many differing images, names and functions.

Neither am I, but Seyfzadeh and Bauval are, so I presume your comment is aimed at them. Proper knowledge is needed to be able to make considered opions on the topic that can be believed. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can look at hieroglyphs and images and say that because it looks like x, y or z to them, then it must mean whatever they say it does, which is what the fringe do, and I'll cite Creighton's hilarious attempt to impose his own meaning onto a seal of Khufu, and it looks as if Seyfzadeh's interpretation of Mehit will be added to this. I agree with this, though it needs to be understood that ... [More]

Not to worry. Biondi will be making that announcement soon and the same people will believe that too.

I like to follow things through, so. The image of Mehit with a "pole" sticking out of her back is used by Seyfzadeh to try and say that it is a "key", to what he clearly thinks is the "Hall of Records" underneath the Great Sphinx. He points out that this image of Mehit with the "pole" does not appear anywhere in the hieroglyph sign lists, and this is correct. Another view on this "pole", the non fringe view, posits that it represents a flagpole outside the shrine that Mehit is sometimes shown with. I knew I've seen something like this before, and it's taken a few days to remember that we see s... [More]

An ancient incarnation of Oprah saying "YOU get a sphinx... and YOU get a sphinx..."?

Werent there always pairs of cats Eagles etc. guarding Tombs and  Egyptian houses if I'm not mistaken?  Would make total sense if there were actually two senses

They liked symmetry, but when it came to death it was confined to the tomb in the form of twim images of Anubis, either on one wall of the tomb, or on both sides of a corridor, and only in some tombs. While Anibus was the guardian of the necropolis, it was never in the form of a physical statue in a necropolis, there were no guardian statues for the necropolis as a whole, that is a common misconception, and I've never seen anybody provide evidence for any guardian statue at a necropolis. I'd better point out though that there is a statue of Anubis outside the Ramesseum which can get used as "e... [More]
