In what has become a tradition at this point, Nessie hunters from all around the world descended on the loch at the weekend.
There is perhaps no cryptozoological enigma as widely debated as the Loch Ness Monster - a prehistoric aquatic beast said to lurk in the depths of Scotland's most famous body of water.

Its a mystery that has endured for centuries, although interest in the creature only gained a foothold in the 20th Century following a number of high-profile sightings and hoaxes.

Today, we still don't really know for sure what people have been seeing all these years and no conclusive physical evidence of a large, anomalous creature in the loch has ever been found.

Even so, interest in the phenomenon is as widespread as ever.

At the weekend, researchers and enthusiasts from all over the country (and the world) descended on the loch for what has become something of an annual tradition - a concerted hunt for the creature utilizing all the underwater scanning technology that the teams can muster.
This year, while hundreds of 'surface watchers' kept an eye on the loch from above, researchers used sonar systems and underwater drones to hunt for anything beneath the surface.

One company - Deep Sea Vision - brought along a new type of autonomous submersible dubbed 'Micro Millie' which sought to map out the terrain beneath the waters of Urquhart Bay.

While there is obviously some merit to the research, it seems that most people participating in the event are simply happy to be there, whether anything is found or not.

"Loch Ness has a unique power to fascinate people, whether they are lifelong believers, curious skeptics or simply captivated by the mystery," said Nagina Ishaq of the Loch Ness Experience.

"The fact that 2026 has already brought new sightings shows that the intrigue around Nessie is as strong as ever."
