Image: AI-generated (Midjourney) Last Friday, viewers got a glimpse of a spectacle that could become more commonplace in the future - an MMA match between a human and a remote-controlled humanoid robot.

The bizarre stunt, which took place in San Francisco, saw influencer Frankie Lapenna stand toe-to-toe with a particularly menacing contraption provided by robotics company REK.

The terrifying machine, which bore more than a passing resemblance to the Terminator, was controlled from behind the scenes and was capable of kicking and punching like its human counterpart.Perhaps unsurprisingly, things didn't go quite according to plan, with Lapenna's own attacks having relatively little effect against his metallic opponent, while the robot's kicks sent him flying.

The strange event offers what could be a glimpse of a robot-dominated future.
