Mammoth to be reborn within four years ?

A breakthrough in cloning technology could see a live mammoth being born within just four years.
In 2008 Dr. Teruhiko Wakayama was able to clone a mouse using cells retrieved from another mouse that had been frozen, now the hunt is on for tissue from a frozen mammoth from which it is hoped scientists can clone a living specimen.
Now that hurdle has been overcome, Akira Iritani, a professor at Kyoto University, is reactivating his campaign to resurrect the species that died out 5,000 years ago. "Now the technical problems have been overcome, all we need is a good sample of soft tissue from a frozen mammoth," he told The Daily Telegraph.

This is exciting... I hope it works and funding stays abundant. ...and I hope God doesn't get angry for mocking him and wipe our species off the planet. I wonder... do we have any sufficient DNA for the saber cats or say the short faced bear for this to work on them? In regards to species not yet extinct but on the verge... we could repopulate areas with dwindling numbers and make endangered species list nonexistent...

Can you imagine, a zoo with 'extinct' animals ... awesome That would be immense. If possible it would make millions!

TOKYO (AFP) – Japanese researchers will launch a project this year to resurrect the long-extinct mammoth by using cloning technology to bring the ancient pachyderm back to life in around five years time. My link I think there's a good reason not to do this. It's dead for a purpose.

I'd imagine mammoth will become a delicacy in Japan.

I'd imagine mammoth will become a delicacy in Japan. Not only that, we can engineer mini-mammoths and sell em as pets.

My link I think there's a good reason not to do this. It's dead for a purpose. From your link I saw no reason not to try this. I am all for it and no the Mammoth will not be used for food or pet. Ok maybe pet in a very large park up north. I volunteer my back yard

I find the idea of bringing an extinct species back to life a bit unsettling but I admit I'd pay my dollar to go see the Mammoth.

Haha, I really liked this part: If a cloned embryo can be created, we need to discuss, before transplanting it into the womb, how to breed (the mammoth) and whether to display it to the public. What if they actually did successfully clone it, but then they didn't show the public!? Like not even videos or anything!
