Officers in Beaumont, Texas arrived on the scene after receiving complaints from members of the public.

The man was found outside the Golden Triangle Tactical store dressed in a large yellow banana costume with an arrow pointing to the entrance behind him and an AK-47 assault rifle slung over his shoulder.

Store owner Derek Poe told officers that the 18-year-old was there to attract customers as part of the store's grand opening, but he was nonetheless temporarily detained for violating a city ordinance prohibiting solicitation along the side of a road.

Poe himself is no stranger to controversy having been stopped by police for carrying an assault rifle on his back through Parkdale Mall back in December.

This is a rather interesting experiment in how we as humans perceive novelty to include cultural and learned memory. To see a human dressed as a banana in the described setting is somewhat novel for some of us, yet poses an unlikely threat based on prior memory. Indeed, this would be considered highly amusing to most of us and evoke that reaction. To see a non-uniformed human standing in the described setting with a gun is novel for most of us, and poses a potential threat based on prior memory. This would likely cause an avoidance reaction. To see an armed banana poses novelty with conflictin... [More]

Reminds of a Simpsons episode: [Homer is trying to think of a way to increase business at the bowling alley] : Of course! [Cut to outside the bowling alley, Homer is firing a shotgun into the air while people around him run away, screaming] : Bowling! Bowling here! Get your bowling! Who's ready? Bowling! : [in the present] Mom, make Dad tell the story right! : That's what really happened. : Oh.

Well i reckon your country must have serious immigration issues. EVERYONE must be knocking on your borders to get some of that utopia. Meanwhile back here in dark, mean and nasty old USA... No one is trying to get into our country. Unlike Singapore, the US media isnt controlled by the Govt, you see the nastiness in Oakland, Chicago, New York etc.... What you fail to see is that 99.9% of this nation is just fine. I dont fear for my safety walking around anywhere except the very dark areas that i mentioned above. and btw... TRUE freedom is FREEDOM. Not freedom from fear. To have freedom fro... [More]
