A rather peculiar police report raised eyebrows recently and, unsurprisingly, things were not quite as they seemed.
As part of efforts to improve efficiency and reduce paperwork, the Heber City Police Department in Utah recently adopted two new artificial intelligence systems - Draft One and Code Four - which automatically produce reports from police camera footage.
While the system had been working well, it soon became apparent that something was amiss.
This was clearly evidenced by the creation of one particular report that detailed how a police officer who had attended a call-out had been subsequently turned into a frog.
It turned out that the blunder happened because the AI had picked up the audio from the movie '
The Princess and The Frog' which happened to be playing in the background at the time.
Somehow, it had managed to muddle up the movie's audio with what was actually going on.
"That's when we learned the importance of correcting these AI-generated reports," Sgt. Rick Keel told
FOX 13 News.
Despite the mishap, however, the department is continuing to make good use of the AI systems.
"I'm saving myself about 6-8 hours weekly now," said Keel.
"I'm not the most tech-savvy person, so it's very user-friendly."
