The space agency is hoping that the next generation of astronauts will inspire a future mission to Mars.
For those hoping to make a living out of exploring the final frontier, now is your chance - NASA has announced that it will be accepting applications for new astronauts from mid-December.

Applicants are required to hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject such as mathematics, physical science, biological science or engineering. It is also necessary to have had at least three years of related professional experience or to have spent 1,000 hours piloting a jet aircraft.
"This next group of American space explorers will inspire the Mars generation to reach for new heights, and help us realize the goal of putting boot prints on the Red Planet," said NASA administrator Charles Bolden.

"Those selected for this service will fly on US made spacecraft from American soil, advance critical science and research aboard the International Space Station, and help push the boundaries of technology in the proving ground of deep space."

Applications close in mid-February and the selected candidates will be announced in 2017.

While I applaud NASA for its robotic endeavors, the opportunity to advance humanity beyond this planet certainly kindles the spirit of adventure that has made humans so successful as a species.
