The groundbreaking operation brought significant improvements in vision within a matter of weeks. The procedure uses a person's own cells to heal damage to the cornea - the transparent outermost layer of the eye. It is carried out under local anaesthetic, with patients returning home within two hours of surgery, removing the need for expensive hospital stays. "
