Rain of meteorites makes the moon hum

A team of scientists have calculated how much the moon "rings" when it is hit by small meteorites, to date no seismometers sent to the lunar surface have been sensitive enough to pick it up.
The man in the moon is humming a tune, but thankfully the noise won't drown out sensors on future missions peeking at the lunar interior.

I've got a question. How come the moons is bombarded by the meteorites all the time and earth, as it seems, isn't. Moon is way smaller than earth is, how can moon attract that many meteorites? So is it becasue earth has an atmosphere and most of the meteorites burn up while entering the earth's atmosphere? thanks.

Very interesting article. Though it is based upon calculations based upon limited data and NOT upon actual seismic sensors of an actual multiple impact event. The complete material and structure of the Moon is still unknown to us. There also have not been very many witnessed impacts on the Moon. Especially whereas all aspects of the impact have been recorded have been made. Back during the Apollo missions of the 1960’s, a supervisor from the data and photo control department at NASA, Ken Johnston, said that at the time of the impact created by the Apollo 13 launch vehicle the scientists were...
