A new theory has suggested that Mars was not always red and that the red dust would have never come in to contact with liquid water, instead being produced by the erosion of rocks being ground down over a long period of time.
Mars was not always red, according to a new theory for how the planet took on its characteristic ruddy hue. Until recently, Mars' color was thought to be a product of liquid water, which scientists think flowed over the planet's surface billions of years ago, rusting rocks.

The grinding down of rocks from erosion which produces a red mineral that stains the dust sounds more logical than water rusting rocks IMO.

erosion from what? Theres no water....I mean ya ok I know wind can also cause it but that would take forever!!! and you would need a lot of wind pretty strong winds at that.
