After a nine year search detectors built 2000ft down in an old mine have registered two "hits" from what could be dark matter.
If so then this will be the first time scientists have had the opportunity to glimpse dark matter however there is still a chance that the find may be the result of background noise rather than a genuine discovery.
Scientists may have caught their first glimpse of dark matter, the mysterious hidden substance believed to give structure to the universe.
