A biotechnology company has produced a genetically modified apple that doesn't go brown when sliced.
Okanagan Specialty Fruits believes the new type of apple known as "Arctic" would boost sales of apples for salads and snacks and is currently asking US authorities for approval to go ahead with the project.
A Canadian biotechnology company has asked the U. S. authorities to approve a genetically modified apple that will not brown soon after it is sliced. The apple variety, which is being marketed as ‘Arctic’, has had the genes responsible for producing the enzyme that induces browning switched off.

And how do you propose you, Crystal the Sage, should understand the bad research from the good research? The valid scientific results from the invalid? You're not laboring under the false belief that "all" research is "good research" are you? Interesting question right there. Maybe something you should dwell on for a bit and figure out the answer too. Here's a hint to what that answer maybe Crystal; it begins with an e and ends with an n. You(u) is before See© and the last 6 letters maybe synonymous with positively charged ion! And your qualifications??? My link Pregnant women and babies at g... [More]

Really no answer to the riddle? I practically spotted you the C and the T! Come on crystal give it a try. Here's the clue again; "it begins with an e and ends with an n. You(u) is before See© and the last 6 letters maybe synonymous with positively charged ion!" And your qualifications??? For what? Understanding genetic modifications? PhD in atomic, molecular and optical physics (which makes me a glorified biochemist), worked with spectroscopy and protein modeling. Was part of the K25 award from NIH to train physicists for biomedical research. Liked it too much and went to clinical micro event... [More]

For what? Understanding genetic modifications? PhD in atomic, molecular and optical physics (which makes me a glorified biochemist), worked with spectroscopy and protein modeling. Was part of the K25 award from NIH to train physicists for biomedical research. Liked it too much and went to clinical micro eventually, which I found I liked (clinical settings) even more and have gone back to school. Currently in medical school. Current research project I am involved in is with how fetal nutrition and in utero epigenetics plays a role in risk association with major disease later in life (cardiovasc... [More]

To sequence the genome of something is not to understand it. The level of comlexity inherent in a gene sequence is far greater than a linear gene to protein tranion (which it was first thought to be), and the higher level structural aspects seem to be very poorly understood. To start chopping and changing something which may have multiple interlocking functions seems to be grossly irresponsible to me. There are many examples of where commercially released GM crops have been demonstrated to be toxic as an unforseen byproduct of their spliced sequence. I personally think that beyond the microbal... My link Seeds of Deception An investigation into the economic, health and environmental implications of the increasing use of GM animal feed in Europe GM animal feed has negative implications for human health because of Vertical gene flow and Horizontal gene transfer. A controversial issue portends to evidence that vertical gene flow is occurring in the guts of the animals fed GM foods and this is in turn resulting in horizontal gene flow. Studies have proven that GM animal feed does affect animal products and ‘Questions regarding the digestive fate of DNA and protein from transgenic grain h... [More]

My link : Dormant viruses can be reactivated with genetically modified organisms - new research, see also www.scup.no/mehd/ho New Research Results on Genetically Modified Organisms The use of the Cauliflower Mosaic Viral promotor (CaMV) has the potential to reactivate dormant viruses or create new viruses in all species to which it is transferred. CaMV is known to be found in practically all current transgenic crops released commercially or undergoing field trials. This transgenic instability increases the possibility of promotion of an inappropriate over-expression of genes to the transferred... [More]

lol, all the brilliant arguing aside.. Apples that don't brown is just somehow icky and something I wouldn't want to eat... Unfortunately, I see a day soon coming that if I want a normal apple (or any other plant for that matter), I'm gonna have to grow heirloom varieties in my own yard to do it BTW.. Bravo to you Copasetic for being so well versed in this subject, I would for sure count you as qualified to know what's up

I came across this and was shocked at the cavalier attitude that Monsanto took to public health and safety. http://www.naturalnews.com/029325_Monsanto_deception.html In India, animals graze on cotton plants after harvest. But when shepherds let sheep graze on Bt cotton plants, thousands died. Investigators said preliminary evidence "strongly suggests that the sheep mortality was due to a toxin. . . . most probably Bt-toxin."(60) In one small study, all sheep fed Bt cotton plants died; those fed natural plants remained healthy. In an Andhra Pradesh village, buffalo grazed on cotton plants for ei...
