Rendlesham - was it an Air Force blunder ?

Was the Rendleshem UFO actually an Apollo capsule dropped from a helicopter by accident ?
The theory involves the capsule being accidently dropped after being transported by helicopter from the Bentwaters air base. Local museum curator Graham Haynes said "lots of people saw lights in the sky and one couple said they saw a helicopter with a large cone-shaped object slung underneath it."
There has been widespread and continuing belief that the mysterious lights and flying saucer seen in a remote forest next to a US Air Force base on Boxing Day 1980 were alien ships.

It seems easy enough to prove or disprove. You just check the records, see if they were indeed due to transport an Apollo capsule from Rendlesham to wherever on the night and time in question, and there you have it. However, why would they be transporting an Apollo capsule a good few years after the program and why would it be in England when, unless I'm wrong and I very well could be, most of the Apollo missions landed in the Pacific? I mean, at this time the Space Shuttle program was up and running. So what were the old Apollo capsules being used for?

As I said in the other thread, none of the sighting at Rendlesham correspond with this story. Aliens and Apollo are equally unlikely in my opinion.

I mean, at this time the Space Shuttle program was up and running. So what were the old Apollo capsules being used for? They're all sitting in museums. We didn't build any more of them. What a strange article.

Cool beans Boon. However, I'm not gonna mess with all that fancy backwards capitalization and all that. 'Cos I'm all traditional and what not.
