Scientists claim cold fusion breakthrough

Two italian scientists claim they have developed and demonstrated a working cold fusion device.
Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi of the University of Bologna held a private press invitation conference where they allegedly demonstrated the device to 50 people, in addition they say the device is ready to start shipping within three months and that mass production will begin by the end of the year.
Few areas of science are more controversial than cold fusion, the hypothetical near-room-temperature reaction in which two smaller nuclei join together to form a single larger nucleus while releasing large amounts of energy.

I think the "I told you so"s can start now. Here is something I found online today... http://pesn.com/2011/03/07/9501782_Cold_Fusion_Steams_Ahead_at_Worlds_Oldest_University/ Time Frame for Implementation EverywhereThe world needs this technology ASAP. We actually needed it many years ago. So how soon can we expect this technology to "get out there" and actually start making a difference. To start with, I think the aspects of this technology that would facilitate rapid dispersion and implementation should be listed. 1) High power density - A minimum of 15KW of constant thermal output from a re... So the true "I told you so"s will have to wait for November, when they supposedly are going to start selling these devices. Looking at what they say, it could be true in some way. Electricity does not take much to produce, even one buildings worth. The amount of nickel they are saying could easily provide that much energy if converted from mass into energy. They seem to imply that the nickel is used up, as a fuel,... [More]

The only conncetion I see is Bologna it's a italian city. Nothing more! The 'connection' he was making was between the name of the city and the term, 'you're talking a load of 'baloney'. This is pretty cool, if not a hoax of some sort. Like one person mentioned already in the thread, it may be possible that they stumbled onto this, and as a result, can't actually figure out how the energy is produced? Or maybe they do know the details, but are hoping to monopolise the market? How long can you hold onto a patent for? Medical ones are 10 years or so, no? Who knows what the score is, if they have... Who knows what the score is, if they have even created such a way to produce energy. One can only hope for such a... [More]
