New drug could cure cat allergies

Scientists have developed a treatment that stops the reactions triggered by an allergy to cats.
The research involves understanding the way that the immune system reacts to allergens, it also raises hopes for treatments to other more serious reactions such as asthma attacks. "There has been a sharp increase in the prevalence of allergies over the past few decades and allergic asthma among children has reached epidemic proportions," says study leader Dr Amir Ghaem-Maghami.British researchers discovered how the animals trigger allergies in different people after they isolated a part of a cell related to minute particles of cat skin. The discovery sheds light on how the body's immune system identifies and reacts to allergens, which could pave the way in developing new ways of treating allergies ranging from sneezes to more serious asthma attacks.
