More than 100 coffins have been desecrated by grave robbers making voodoo charms from body parts.
The spate of grave robberies has been condemned by officials and spiritual leaders alike in the West African country of Benin. Those responsible have been resuming bodies from cemeteries, making voodoo good luck charms from the parts and then selling them on for a sizable profit.
"The desecration of graves is about money in this region," said cemetery director Joseph Afaton. "It is for sacrifices, or for bewitching." This isn't the only such case to hit the news in recent times either, last month five people were arrested in Thailand for stealing human skulls and using them to make love charms.
It's a grave situation in the West African country of Benin where more than 100 coffins have reportedly been desecrated in a cemetery near the capital city of Porto Novo, and dozens of bodies mutilated.
