New research has revealed that learning to play a musical instrument can help improve brain function, not only in the area of musical training but also in general thinking and cognition.
For most people music is an enjoyable, although momentary, form of entertainment. But for those who seriously practiced a musical instrument when they were young, perhaps when they played in a school orchestra or even a rock band, the musical experience can be something more.

I am a FIRM believer in this. It really disappoints me when I see school music programs cut back more and more each year. I think that learning a musical instrument at any age helps with more than just brain power. It teaches you self discipline and it's very rewarding if it's something that you really want to do. Great article!
