Advances in biotechnology and engineering could one day produce plastic that can grow on trees.
Companies are already finding ways to improve upon crops through special biological engineering techniques, in the not too distant future such processes could be taken a step further and be used to grow materials such as plastic.
Money sure doesn’t grow on trees, but the day isn’t far when gasoline, computers, and tennis shoes might actually grow on trees, all thanks to new advances in biotechnology that could allow manufacturers to produce fuel, plastics, and other chemicals from plants instead of petroleum.
