The man who grows extra bones in his body

Dan Aziere has a rare genetic disorder due to which he has an estimated 50 extra bones in his body.
From an early age Dan has had multiple surgeries to remove some of the excess bones which develop just about everywhere in his body from his rib cage to his fingers and can grow up to four inches long.
By the time we reach middle school, one of the facts we learn in science class is that the average adult has 206 bones, give or take a few. Yet Danbury resident Dan Aziere has more than that in his body. A lot more.

At least he's positive on his condition and using it in a good way. Maybe he can sell a few of those extra bones on the black market if needs some cash.

Atleast his condition can be maintained and doesn't have a huge physical effect compared to Joseph Merrick.

The idea that this man has extra bones is completely false-- based on an article that appeared on newstimes.com and which is a prime example of bad journalism allied to good intentions. MHE actually involves the growth of multiple benign tumors called osteochondromas and exostoses. Psychotic Behavior is correct in saying that the disease does not have the same sort of pronounced physiological as does Proteus Syndrome (the disease that affected John Merrick), but there is a varying level of physical discomfort, disability, and deformity that is associated with the disorder. However, MHE does NO... [More]

Atleast his condition can be maintained and doesn't have a huge physical effect compared to Joseph Merrick. proteus syndrome is such a horrible condition. poor mr merrick. but just because one genetic condition is seemingly more aweful than the next does not bare any less on what it can do to ones psyche. its just lucky it isnt affecting him so badly

My point was not to make a comparision. MHE can strike people to varying degrees. There are many people who face profound disability because of the disorder, while others are barely impacted. My point was to clarify what I consider to misinformation. As an MHE sufferer myself, I am frankly profoundly disturbed that my disease is being featured as a sort of side show attraction. I am not some sort of freak- like the world's oldest tub of lard or the woman who wants to marry a building. I defy this label and the inclusion of my condition on this website. I want people to know the facts... not so... [More]

Please trust that finding something that I experience on a day to day basis featured on this site as a sort of oddity was horrible for me. Yes misinformation does hurt. I do love to read about these unexplained mysteries and do not expect a high level of journalism. However, finding this here as really disturbed and depressed me. My only redeeming thought is that it is completely untrue.

Hello Kalavinka, I am the wife of the mane in this article. This in no way was meant to upset anyone, it is to inform people that even though you may different, and things could always be worse. My husband has had over 20 surgeries a this point and he has been in a lot of pain. Did you know that you have a 50/50 chance of passing this down to your children? Well two of our three children have it, they have had muilble surgeries them self. Maybe you don't have it as bad and i hope you don't but as for my family we go through a lot.If you would ever like to talk more about this we would love to ... [More]

The way I understand its a form of Cancer. Canser is a cell that keeps growing beyond what makes that perfect baby that stops. We can divide a cell, clone a cell, but we can ever figure out how to stop a cell from growing we can beat it.
