In a way akin to Twitter aliens could have been sending us short messages for years according to scientists.
They could have been using cosmic 'tweets' to contact us for decades, researchers claim - but we have been missing them.

Why can we not send a coherent signal to Jupiter, but we can talk with the Voyager probes?

I well see what I can do for you Psyche101 that has little bit of hummer if i didn't lose it over the years! Something about probing as well an old tale that people say other then they went though it all depends what you are refereeing to!. if ones known about your tech that you called x ray you can imagine what they well do with it if they have something smilier that allows to see though clothing I bet males well go dig for it then females. Like I said it depends on others have lot of knowledge and etc then they know the difference or have smilier to what you guys have but in different way of... [More]

Well, people better versed then I in long distance communications say this is not possible as the message scatters too much. But I want to know why we can talk to the Voyager probes if that is the case? Electromagnetic waves scatter by the inverse square law. Or, in other words, if you have a transmitter that emits with a power of Ptr you signal will scatter as it propagates and at the distance R the power will have dropped to Ptr/R2. Simple physics, unfortunately. But so far the Voyager probes are still within the reasonable communication envelope. And so is Jupiter and if we wanted we could ... [More]

Frankly, I am not sure I understand what the news in this really is. It is asserted that: 1. Aliens could be using directed radio wave bursts to communicate with us a la twitter. 2. SETI is not capable of detecting said radio frequency bursts. Well, 1. is pretty obvious. We know that. And we have already done it some 36 years ago (wiki link). The problem is that to send directed messages you really need to know there is a chance of a recipient being present in the other end, as otherwise it makes no sense. Then it is better to broadcast. 2. makes no sense to me to be honest. SETI would be perf... [More]
