Wanted man performed DIY plastic surgery

A man wanted for murder in Japan performed plastic surgery on his own face to conceal his identity.
To help avoid being caught Tatsuya Ichihashi used scissors and a box cutter to make alterations to his face including a nose job. He will stand trial later in the year for the rape and murder of his English teacher.
While on the lam for 2½ years, a Japanese man wanted for the murder of a British woman says he scissored off his lower lip, dug two moles out of his cheek with a box cutter and gave himself a nose job in an attempt to obscure his identity.

Wow! What he did to himself had to hurt. But surprisingly did a good job. No pain, no gain I suppose?

Hmmm, he does need to pay for his crimes, but I don't know, I get the impression he didn't mean to kill her? Anybody get that impression too?

He didn't do such a bad job. When I read the title, I imagined him looking scarred and missing half a nose.

Never underestimate what one will do out of desperation. Seems extreme, but I suppose fear of the inevitable reckoning was stronger than the aversion to pain or remorse for his crime. Murderers must answer.
