Newly released UFO files recount a hoax that sparked fears of a real life alien invasion in the 1960s.
On September 4th 1967 four police forces, bomb disposal squads and military intelligence officers were all deployed in response to calls reporting six flying saucers discovered in fields across the country. It turned out that the UFOs were nothing more than a hoax by engineering students from Farnborough Technical College.
The authorities, including four local forces and a bomb disposal unit, swung into action after six "flying saucers" were found by members of the public in a perfect line across southern England.

Even though this was discovered to be a harmless hoax or prank, I'm not surprsied that any reports of unknown objects flying around would get a military and police reaction. This has happened more times than anyone can court. There are plenty of examples of military and police investigations of UFOs, chasing UFOs around, and so on. That's kind of routine, frankly. Since the Cold War was still on back then in 1967, I would expect that UFO reports like these would definitely have provoked a reaction from the military, police and intelligence agencies--just to find out what was going on, if the S...
