Even though this was discovered to be a harmless hoax or prank, I'm not surprsied that any reports of unknown objects flying around would get a military and police reaction. This has happened more times than anyone can court. There are plenty of examples of military and police investigations of UFOs, chasing UFOs around, and so on. That's kind of routine, frankly.
