Clive Palmer hopes for his new version of the famous vessel to sail from England to New York.
With the 100 year anniversary of the tragic maiden voyage of the 'unsinkable' Titanic just passed, Palmer believes now is the time to bring the vessel back from the annals of history. The full-size replica will be built in a Chinese shipyard and will be based on the original designs ( albeit with a few upgrades ) including 840 rooms and 9 decks.
Mr Palmer however is not going to repeat the mistakes of the past by claiming that the vessel will be unsinkable. "Of course it will sink if you put a hole in it," he said. "It will be designed as a modern ship with all the technology to ensure that doesn't happen. But, of course, if you are superstitious you never know what could happen."
The replica of the ill-fated ship will be built at a Chinese shipyard and will sail on its maiden voyage accompanied by the Chinese navy. It will be powered by diesel rather than coal but will otherwise follow design plans approved by a historical research team and, like its predecessor, will have 840 rooms and nine decks.
