Campers encounter real-life 'Blair Witch'

Two women got more than they bargained for when they camped out in the woods near Bristol.
Lola Swan and Kate Channon had set up their tent and camping equipment in dense woodland on the outskirts of the city in the hope of enjoying a relaxing night under the stars, but as darkness fell things started to take a turn for the worse.

"During the night we heard the sounds of, what can be described as, people walking around," said Lola. "Twigs and branches were cracking and breaking, like footsteps on the forest ground."

The women became increasingly aware of the feeling of being watched but were unable to see signs of anyone else in the area. At one point Kate whistled out and was terrified to hear someone whistling back at her from the darkness. Some of their camping tools also seemed to have gone missing.
The two friends eventually made the decision to flee after hearing what sounded like a baby crying at around 1am. "After midnight it all got too scary and, in our panic and fear, packed up our tent and got the hell out of there," said Lola.

The experience didn't end there however, as the following morning while flicking through the photographs they had taken in the woods Lola discovered an image showing what appeared to be a strange glowing figure in the background.

The photograph can be viewed - here.

"I immediately threw the phone to the ground," she said. "I knew we were being watched, and that picture proves it."

I'll admit it. If I saw those two big-haired hipsters in the next camp site with their fashionable pink camping gear, and if I were camping with one of my mischievous friends, there's a 50/50 chance that we'd try to freak them out in the middle of the night. The worst thing you can do is slowly scrape a branch along the outside of the tent. That'll freak you out.

That's exactly what cougars do. They whistle, and impersonate the sound of a baby crying. I've been living in the mountains on a rez, hours from town for years. Happens all the time. Yet still, nothing creepier than walking through the bush in the middle of the night, to hear babies crying in the bush.

A panther will also scream like a woman. It would probably scare a lot of people if they were camping and didn't know what it was. Well panthers are scary enough, especially in a mood to do that.

According to a ranger's post in the comments of the Bristol article, overnight camping is not allowed in Leigh Woods. They weren't supposed to be there at all.

Don't all species of cat make that baby crying sound during mating?

1 of 2 things: either they are on the level or the pranksters are really lame. A child crying? Come on... how many times has that been done before? Stealing a hammer? They should've left some wooden sticks or a pile of rocks outside their tent if they wanted to stay true to the Blair Witch storyline. Were I in charge of the pranks, those 2 would be in an institution by now... I know this thread is older, but I remember back when I 'liked' this comment that I thought if you were in charge of the pranks I would NOT have wanted to be those girls. Just one of those feelings. Rereading it now...yup... [More]
