Japanese robotics company Schaft has revealed a new domestic robot capable of carrying heavy loads.
The as-yet-unnamed creation, which has been designed mainly for home rather than military use, was unveiled during the 2016 New Economic Summit in Japan earlier this week.
The innovative robot, which has not been designed to mimic the humanoid form, bears more than a passing resemblance to the robots from the Christopher Nolan science-fiction movie Interstellar.
Despite appearances however the new machine is surprisingly adept at climbing up stairs, walking across uneven terrain, carrying heavy loads and can even vacuum the floor using its feet.
This is one robot that could conceivably end up in everyone's home in the not-too-distant future.
Amazing! I'm jealous. It walks better than I do. Of course I just had my knee reconstructed. Another item to dust and take into "the shop" for its warranty check-ups. I can see these robots going shopping with the 1%-ers carrying all of their items because it's just too strenuous to do it themselves.
We would all have personal robots by now, if we didn't waste so much time, effort, and money, making them look humanoid. There was a personal robot fad in the 1980's. I still have one I bought called Hero JR. He rolls around in a shell like a trashcan, talks, and navigates with sonar. Doesn't do anything practical though.
