Google Maps image allegedly shows a large 'door' in the Antarctic ice

Is this some sort of doorway ? Or something else ? Image Credit: Google Maps Antarctica has been the focus of a number of conspiracy theories over the years, with claims of secret extraterrestrial bases, ancient pyramids and other anomalies being nothing unusual.

Some argue that this freezing continent is the ideal place for alien visitors to hide their presence, while proponents of alternative history believe that Antarctica could even be the site of Atlantis itself.

Suffice to say, however, that there is no evidence to support either of these theories.

Now another potential anomaly has been found in the Antarctic ice - this time courtesy of Google Maps sleuths who spent hours analyzing images of the region to look for anything unusual.The image they came up with shows what looks like a large doorway heading deep into the ice - possibly as part of some sort of secretive underground facility.

The co-ordinates are 69°00'50"S 39°36'22"E.

On close inspection, it certainly looks like something is there, but it's possible that what we are actually looking at is a solid block of ice from which the snow has partially cleared.
