Lake Worth residents were shocked to receive an alert warning them about zombies earlier this week.
The unexpected notice, which was sent at 1:45 a.m. during a power outage on Sunday morning, referred to 'extreme zombie activity' in both the Lake Worth and Terminus areas.
The complete message, which was sent in all caps, read:
"POWER OUTAGE AND ZOMBIE ALERT FOR RESIDENTS OF LAKE WORTH AND TERMINUS. THERE ARE NOW FAR LESS THAN SEVEN THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY CUSTOMERS INVOLVED DUE TO EXTREME ZOMBIE ACTIVITY. RESTORATION TIME UNCERTAIN."Unsurprisingly, it turned out that the zombie references had been sent in error.
"We are looking into reports that the system mentioned zombies," said Lake Worth's public information officer Ben Kerr. "I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message."
