'Silent Man' won't stop standing in the road

An individual known as 'Silent Man' has been standing in the road causing traffic jams for the last 7 years.
The enigmatic individual - who has been identified as 51-year-old David Hampson - first developed a peculiar habit for standing in the road back in 2014 and has been repeatedly doing it ever since.

A typical incident occurred in December of last year when Hampson strode out into a three-lane carriageway and held up the traffic outside Swansea Central Police Station.

When he was inevitably arrested, true to his 'Silent Man' persona he remained completely silent the entire time and even refused to speak during the later court proceedings.

He had previously had a criminal behavior order imposed which forbade him from interfering with the traffic, however this, too, fell on deaf ears and made no difference to his peculiar habit.
He wouldn't even engage with a court doctor who had attempted to interview him.

Efforts are now underway to gain access to his medical records in an attempt to understand what might be wrong with him and why he keeps standing in the road.

"Either Mr Hampson is going to spend the rest of his life in prison or something is done to help him with what are clearly deep-seated problems," the judge said during court proceedings.

"The court wants to help him rather than punish him - whether he is willing to help us do that is another matter."

we had such man on bqe right off Brooklyn bridge, he is in a wheel chair, at least ours was asking for money, and does not stop the traffic, he does the best he can to stay out of cars way, but  he still holds up the traffic a bit

So why hasn't he ever been charged all these seven years? Causing traffic jam is bound to get you in trouble for sure and you'd think he would be warned not to do it anymore...

The 51-year-old is subject to a criminal behavior order which forbids him from obstructing any public highway in England and Wales, but judging by his past action, he doesn’t care much about such accusations. In 2018, Hampson was sentenced to three years in prison for blocking the road in exactly the same spot as always, just outside the Swansea Central Police Station. And just as always, he refused to offer any explanation, or say anything else for that matter. The same thing happened the last time he decided to block the road, in December of 2020. Now he faces criminal charges.
