A construction manager recently snapped a picture of something unusual in a lake in south-west London.
Arek Chytros had been going for a stroll along the water's edge one morning when he noticed what appeared to be the neck and body of a dark-colored creature protruding from the surface of the lake.
The photograph he took quickly went viral, with social media users and news outlets alike commenting on the image's resemblance to iconic photographs of the Loch Ness Monster.
Many speculated that the 'monster' could be a dog or a swan, however this is one mystery that does have an explanation as Chytros himself knew exactly what it was when he took the photograph.
"It's a tree," he said. "As soon as I spotted, it I thought of Nessie hence I snapped a picture."
Despite the down-to-Earth explanation, the 35-year-old is still open-minded about lake monsters.
"You never know what's hiding in the unknown," he said.
"If a real Nessie exists then it's got to be some dinosaur that refused to go extinct."
"I'd like to think that it does exist.'"
