Bizarre 'Bigfoot trap' is still being maintained after 48 years

Nestled deep in the woods of Jackson County, Oregon, there can be found a trap which was built to capture a live Bigfoot.
Situated in Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest around 3.1 miles from the border with California, the trap - which is often hailed as the only one of its kind - was built in 1974 by the now-defunct North American Wildlife Research Team (NAWRT) in a bid to capture the elusive hominid.

Measuring 10ft by 10ft, the trap consists of a wooden box with a metal door capable of automatically closing should anything happen to wander inside.

For its first six years, researchers baited the trap with carcasses, however they only ever caught bears.
When it was later abandoned in the early 1980s, the door was bolted open to prevent any curious visitors from becoming trapped inside.

While in the years that followed the trap had started to fall into disrepair, in 2006 the US Forest Service began to actively repair and maintain it, thus turning it into something of a visitor attraction.

Even to this day, it remains a popular destination for hikers on the Collings Mountain hiking trail.

Whether a Bigfoot has ever been tempted to check it out, however, remains a mystery.
