The girl had written to her local animal control authority for ask for permission to keep a unicorn in her back yard.
Sometimes dreams do come true - as evidenced recently by the case of Madeline, a young girl whose ambition to own a real-life unicorn prompted her to write a letter to the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control to ask for official permission.

Department officials were so touched that they wrote her a letter back telling her that she could indeed own a unicorn, providing she followed a number of strict guidelines.

These included granting the unicorn regular access to moonbeams and rainbows, feeding it watermelon at least once a week and polishing its horn once a month with a soft cloth.

The department also stipulated that any sparkles or glitter used must be non-toxic and biodegradable.
Director Marcia Mayeda even sent the girl a tag with "Permanent Unicorn License" written on it.

She commended the youngster for her "sense of responsible pet ownership to seek permission in advance" and for considering "the requirements of providing a loving home to animals".

The story quickly went viral and ended up making it onto multiple mainstream news channels.

As for Madeline - no doubt this is one real-life fairy tale she won't be forgetting anytime soon.
