A novel new reality show will require Flat Earth believers to convince a panel of experts that they are correct.
Those who believe that the Earth is flat despite overwhelming, incontrovertible evidence to the contrary will soon be given a chance to put forward their case to a panel of experts thanks to a new reality show coming later this year to new streaming service
The Network.
Entitled
Flat Earthers, the show, which is described as part docuseries and part competition, will give four families $50,000 of resources that they can use in an attempt to prove that the Earth is flat.
If they can convince the majority of a panel of scientists, theologians and cartographers that their beliefs are correct, they will win an undisclosed cash prize.
Given how unlikely it is that anyone will actually win, however, the amount will probably be irrelevant anyway.
From the press release, it seems that the show is more about highlighting the increasing number of Americans who believe that the Earth is flat than it is about taking the idea itself too seriously.
"As we continue to deliver audiences free, premium content we are excited to announce this daring and genre breaking docu-series," said
The Network creator Aram Rappaport.
"The Flat Earth phenomenon continues to grow on a global level.
Flat Earthers will provide a fascinating view into the psyche of the human condition and what drives belief systems worldwide."
All ten episodes of the show will launch in December.
