'NEO Beta' robot is like something out of a science-fiction movie

Robotics firm 1X has unveiled its latest creation which looks, moves and acts like a real person.
We've seen some impressive robots over the last few years from companies such as Tesla and Boston Dynamics, but this latest model revealed by lesser known firm 1X has certainly succeeded in turning some heads in recent weeks.

Known as NEO Beta, the robot - which is covered in a sort of skintight suit to hide its robotic components - seems to be designed to act as an assistant for use around the home.

In a short promotional video, the robot can be seen gesturing toward, then picking up a woman's backpack and handing it to her in a very natural way.
It then beckons for her to come back, puts its arm around her waist and even waves to the camera.

While it's obviously very early days for this particular robot and it will likely be some years before it will be capable of performing tasks around the home without supervision, the trailer does offer a glimpse at what a future in which we live alongside intelligent robots might actually be like.

Unsurprisingly, some viewers have expressed concern over the idea of having robots like this in people's homes, especially given what we've seen in science-fiction movies over the years.

Exactly how intelligent and capable a robot like this could eventually become remains unclear.

I really want one that looks exactly like that. Wait... ah, it's the one in the grey. Meh, I guess I'd find some other way to use it.

I like this but then again I like robots; I just hope that these will be used for the good of civilization and not as yet even more tools for war and destruction.

Wives might love the idea of this robot helping around the house—or maybe not, if it makes their chores (and maybe them!) obsolete.

It's just a person in a suit.  China pulled the same nonsense.  I swear, if Mexicans were skinny enough to wear robot suits, Amazon would traffic them.

Not a bad looking "creature". ? I want humans to remain in control of technology, and I want to ensure that machines serve humanity's best interests. We also got to make sure they are protected from malicious hacking! I also think it's particularly important to make sure that robots complement human efforts rather than replace them entirely. They can be a major help to us if we make sure to create a healthy balance in how we use them in our society.

Did anyone see "Blank"? I watched it on BBC2 a couple of days ago.   Spoiler Claire Rivers is a desperate writer struggling with writer's block, so she travels to a fully enclosed rural compound for a retreat that is fully controlled by A.I. However, a glitch turns the whole residence into a torturous prison.
