Illinois truck driver reports close encounter with 'Bigfoot'

Image: AI-generated (Midjourney) It had started out like any other day when Gary Rutherford Jr. - a 42-year-old truck driver who had been transporting USPS mail along Route 9 between Glasford and Canton, Illinois - encountered something that he would never forget.

It was 6am on October 5th and everything had been going smoothly until, around three quarters of a mile along the route, his low beams illuminated something strange at the side of the road.

"I didn't process this thing until I was right up on it. I did a double-take," he recalled.

"It was standing, two legs, brown fur. I drove past it in about five seconds. In that moment, it locked eyes with me, orange, yellowish glowing eyes.""And I realized it was eye-to-eye even though I was sitting high up in a 24-foot truck. So I estimated the thing had to be 8 feet tall. I was just stunned, trying to figure out what I just saw."

The encounter would go on to bother him greatly and he quickly developed a keen interest in researching and reading about the Bigfoot phenomenon.

"I replay it over and over every day in my mind," he said. "That thing was just so huge. It was walking along the side of the road like it was getting ready to cross."

"And it was just me and him out there. I think it was as surprised as I was."
