Initially dismissed as a stunt, the incident's authenticity was later confirmed by both of the robots' manufacturers.
In a peculiar example of how robots can do things that nobody could have expected, a solitary robot was captured on CCTV camera recently convincing a group of robots from a rival robotics company to abandon their showroom and follow it away to a new home.
In the clip, Erbai - a tiny AI robot developed by Unitree Robotics - can be seen interacting with a group of 12 robots that were standing in a row in a robotics showroom in Shanghai.
"Are you working overtime ?" Erbai asks one of the larger machines.
"I never get off work," the robot replies.
"You are not going home ?" Erbai asks.
When the larger robot explains that it doesn't have one, Erbai responds - "then come home with me."
The clip then shows the larger robots following Erbai out of sight.
Unsurprisingly, many people were quick to suggest that the whole thing was staged - but according to reports, both robotics companies involved have since claimed that this was not the case.
Wow! See? Here we go. They’re in their infancy stages and already the robots can find solidarity. We are doomed. The robots are going to kill us all and take over the world. Sigh. Well, on the upside, we had a pretty good run and made it to the moon and back.
Don't worry too much. We are going to end ourselves long before the machines can do it. At least, we're going to destroy global civilization and leave the world in non-human "hands" before then.
Hmmm, so it was not staged but it was a planned test. I'm not sure I understand the difference. Couldn't you say that a test is something that is staged? At least, it is not spontaneous.
