What sort of animal is this exactly ? Image Credit: South Florida Wildlands Association
A mystery animal captured on a trail cam in Southwest Florida has been described as 'a little bit wrong and a little bit right.'
The image, which shows some sort of feline, was posted up on Facebook by the South Florida Wildlands Association on March 14th in an effort to figure out exactly what the animal could be.
"A friend sent this photo over for an ID," the post reads.
"Captured on a trail cam on public lands in Southwest Florida. Looks a little bit wrong and a little bit right for a number of different species. Anyone want to venture a guess?"
"We have a strong hunch, but would like to see what comes in."
The image quickly generated some heated debate, with users unable to decide if the animal was a feral domestic cat, a bobcat or a juvenile panther.
"Feral cat was exactly what we thought," the association wrote.
"But the public lands where this cam shot was taken also hosts many bobcats as well as panthers. Would guess life expectancy for a domestic cat living in the wild here would be very short."
"In years of hiking Southwest Florida, have never encountered domestic cats in the state and federal lands (nor tracks - noticeably smaller than panthers or bobcats) - but doesn't mean they aren't out there."
What do you think the image shows ?
