Commissioned by the office of the chief science advisor, the report highlights flaws in current UFO reporting mechanisms.
With UFO transparency high on the agenda in the US in recent years, it was perhaps inevitable that its neighbor Canada would also seek to improve its approach to the UFO phenomenon.
To this end, a new report has been published courtesy of the Sky Canada Project - an initiative set up by the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada (OCSA) for the purpose of reviewing current practices surrounding public reporting of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) in the country.
The report highlights the "fragmented" nature of Canada's UFO reporting mechanisms and call for a new federal framework to manage sighting reports by pilots and members of the public.
"Ultimately, investigating UAPs calls for interdisciplinary and international collaboration," the report states.
"[The] first goal is to increase government transparency on UAPs, potentially reducing related conspiracy theories and misinformation."
"Second, setting up clear and efficient reporting systems for UAP observations will greatly simplify the process, encourage more public participation and support citizen-driven science."
"Improved data from public reports will enable more comprehensive and accurate research analyses. Investigating UAP reports may also enhance airspace security by identifying threats, thus strengthening national security through the proactive mitigation of risks from UAPs."
"Finally, these measures will enable Canada to eventually join international efforts concerning UAP sightings, fostering a comprehensive global approach to understand and address the UAP issue."
