The World Federation of Legendary Monsters will aim to solve some of the world's biggest monster mysteries.
In an unexpected move, the new supergroup, which is being set up by staff at the Loch Ness Center on the shores of Scotland's most famous loch, will unite experts and monster hunters around the world in a collaborative effort to solve a wide range of enduring cryptozoological mysteries.
Such enigmas include the Bigfoot of North America, the Yeti of the Himalayas and the Chupacabra of Hispanic America, as well as a wide range of other lake monster legends in the Americas and beyond.
By uniting multiple experts in the field, the hope is that the answers to these enigmas can be found.
"For decades, Loch Ness has inspired scientists, storytellers, and skeptics alike," said the Loch Ness Monster Center's Nagina Ishaq.
"Now we are looking beyond the Highlands to build a global network of expertise as we look for new ways to uncover the biggest mysteries."
"We want to bring together the leading voices in folklore and science to share their theories, challenge assumptions and celebrate these legends in new ways."
With the center already investing in and supporting new ways to hunt for Nessie, including high-tech sonar vessels and underwater drones, perhaps this new initiative will finally lead to a definitive explanation for the Loch Ness Monster mystery.
That said, given the difficulties inherent in solving not only this but many other cryptozoological mysteries around the world as well, it's probably best not to hold your breath.
