The UFO Phenomenon

Researchers want UFOs to be a topic of serious academic study

A growing movement aims to turn the phenomenon from a fringe topic into a subject of genuine academic pursuit.
While many still dismiss UFOs as pseudoscience, a growing number of researchers view the topic as a legitimate subject for rigorous academic investigation.

The Society for UAP Studies is ahead of the curve in this regard; its recent international conference wrapped up with an argument for the establishment of a new discipline dedicated to studying UFOs.

The group's board is comprised of dozens of experts from all over the world.

Michael Cifone, who is the society's co-founder and president, recently told USA Today that the group wasn't looking to take any particular position on the existence or otherwise of alien visitors.
"But we are interested in taking on these topics that don't fit neatly anywhere," he said.

"As academics, our skill is in establishing a framework so we're not simply speculating, but situating it within historical, cultural and scientific frameworks."

His own interest was piqued when he turned his attention to researching the phenomenon during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"While [the study of UAPs] was a topic of ridicule, there was still something strange and odd for which there seemed to be some good anecdotal evidence and witness evidence, evidence that was not easily dismissible by conventional analysis," he said.

Whether the society will succeed in establishing the phenomenon as a genuine scientific subject, however, remains to be seen.

And they are all useless as evidence!

No, you are repeating assertions, not clarifying them. Pointing out a problem with specific words is not being triggered, it is addressing the meaning of the claim. If the wording keeps causing objections, that is because the claim itself is unclear or unsupported.

Not being able to possitively identify what a light reported to have been seen in the sky, was, does not mean anything. If you hear a rustle in the hedgerow, and can't identify the cause, does it count as evidence for fairies or elves?

Or @acute stalking you?

No, not even. As expected, you had nothing.

And what are you doing?   Picking with no useful input or insight, just demanding proof of something from someone who said "we weren't there so how could we know what really happened"

^This part^ is why the likes of myself & @Hazzard are confused regarding your stance, all due respect. It suggests you feel there is some kinda secret the authorities want to keep from us (aliens or not, whatever), hence all the redactions. Haz IMO has clearly stated the likely reason for these redactions, of which I agree. ?

No, it's a spring clean . . .

I like that! ?To add: If you're walking past said hedgerow with a Cryptozoologist & he/she don't know what caused it= doesn't, by default, make it something weird & worth looking into. Same as when top folk within the relevant authorities say they don't know what it is when looking at UAP reports......
