'Conjuring' house saga twist as Ghost Hunters' Jason Hawes tries to buy it

The fate of the iconic haunted house that inspired an entire movie franchise remains in the balance.
We last reported on the drama surrounding the remote Rhode Island farmhouse, which was the scene of a notorious real-life haunting that plagued the Perron family for years, back in September when it was revealed that it would be going up for auction at Halloween.

The story goes that a witch was said to have cursed the property, dooming anyone who lived there.

The house has changed hands several times over the years, with the Heinzen family buying it in 2019 and then, just two years later, it was sold again and opened to the public as a paranormal attraction.

As it turned out, the Halloween auction never took place, but in an unexpected twist, Jason Hawes of Ghost Hunters fame - having been publically called upon by Andrea Perron to preserve the property - started a GoFundMe to purchase it himself, arguing that it should be cared for respectfully.
According to reports, when the house's current owner suffered financial difficulties and defaulted on their mortgage, the door was potentially open for Hawes' $1.3 million bid to go through.

Since then, however, further legal disagreements have put a block on the sale, meaning that the whole thing is now up in the air and it is unclear whether Hawes will still be able to purchase it or not.

Certain legal documents now prevent the transfer of ownership for the foreseeable future.

As things stand, the drama surrounding the house, it seems, is no closer to being resolved.

There’s a whole crazy back story to this, with a pair of you-tuber ghost whisperer idiots being resident at the house, I think one is Hawes daughter (maybe).  They ran a grift with the owner until the owner turned them all against her with shenanigans. This drama was far more interesting than any paranormal stuff at the house.

You’d think at this point in his life Hawes wouldn’t be actively craving this kind of attention to the point that he’s associating himself with a flaming fraud. He’s trying to out-Bagans Zak himself.

They did. It’s now 412 Ocean Avenue. Instead of 112. Brilliant.

The histories attached to your houses, especially the more local and obscure they are, are fascinating enough on their own. I love to collect works by late nineteenth/early twentieth century antiquarians like Charles G. Harper, Allan Fea, and Sabine Baring-Gould.

Go where? Amityville? I'm in the UK, m8. You pay the airfare, and I'll stay there, no problem!  I've stayed in a real 'haunted mansion' in Belfast, in the room the ghost was seen in, but not seen it myself. My only (possibly) ghostly encounters were related to family members so didn't frighten me. And two of them i can rationally explain away. You can barely throw a stone in the UK without hitting a place with a story or two-my village has a haunted pub, and a nearby Tudor-era hall is supposedly haunted by Anne Boleyn....

And a lot won't be on record, as they just occur in normal suburban houses where people just have an odd experience, they tell a friend about it, and it gets forgotten.  Its easier now to record this stuff, with YouTube and websites to report things but a lot of people don't want publicity. I've noticed with amusement how many times the same places come up on different US TV series, and how you can usually hire the place out....

Yeah, disclosure, we've lived here about 8 years now, damn times flies, it's a 100 plus yo fixer upper the only house on our block we have the cornor the church has the rest, I don't look like the average house buyer and Tina looks like Joan Jett 1985, We only dealt with realtor the seller I guess was meshuga, the realtor loved us, we waived inspection and made a low side offer and scored, however, the realtor said the place was allegedly haunted, I laughed and said, if its not do I get a rebate? Between the realtor , neighbors and even local businesses and the church we pieced together the ow... [More]

Out of curiosity, what's happened with a house from Truman Capote's book/film 'In Cold Blood'?

It's still there, and privately owned.
