Something fell from the sky over the city's Spring area on Saturday night, prompting a response from NASA.
The bizarre incident began when local residents reported hearing strange thunder-like noises coming from above despite the weather being calm and the skies clear.
A short time later, Spring area's Sherrie James reported that something had hit her house.
When her grandson went to look, he discovered a hole in the ceiling and a small rock on the floor. Believing it to be a meteorite, she decided to call the local fire department.
While the fire crew initially believed that something must have fallen from a passing plane, it soon became apparent that something else must have taken place due to the number of calls from other residents concerning strange thunder-like sounds in the area.
The incident even gained the attention of NASA, which confirmed that the phenomenon had been caused by a meteor.
"Current data indicates that the meteor became visible at 49 miles above Stagecoach, north-west of Houston," the space agency wrote on X.
"It moved southeast at 35,000mph, breaking apart 29 miles above Bammel, just west of Cypress Station."
"The fragmentation of the meteor - which weighed about a ton with a diameter of 3 feet - created a pressure wave that caused booms heard by some in the area."
"Doppler weather radar also showed meteorites produced between Willowbrook and Northgate Crossing."
Fortunately, nobody was hurt by the falling fragments.
