The newly released files contain multiple accounts of UFO encounters and references to extraterrestrial visitors.
Mere hours after the Pentagon released the first batch of Trump's UFO files, the Internet was alive with debate, discussion and speculation as researchers and news agencies sifted through the documents for anything that might help to shine some new light on the phenomenon.
Many of the documents contain things we've heard of before - stories of UFOs interfering with electronic equipment, objects exhibiting extraordinary speeds and capabilities and testimonies from military personnel detailing close encounters with UAPs in air space across the world.
One of the most interesting new documents is a memo discussing how a book (
Flying Saucers - Serious Business) by author Frank Edwards had significantly increased the public's awareness of the phenomenon in the 1960s.
"A few witnesses have reported seeing crewmen who had landed from the objects, who are described as three-and-a-half to four feet tall, wearing what appear to be space suits and helmets," the memo reads.
"The above is being called to the Bureau's attention in view of the press report of mounting pressure for a civilian controlled investigative agency to handle UFO matters."
The memo was sent to the director of the FBI as well as to Edward Condon - a nuclear physicist who briefly worked on the Manhattan Project and who headed up a major government-backed study into the UFO phenomenon.
It discusses Edwards' claims that UFOs are "space vehicles sent to observe activities on earth".
"Many of the persons named in the book who have reported them are reliable individuals, including law enforcement officers, military personnel on official duty, military pilots, commercial airline pilots, civilian defense officials, etc," the memo reads.
"A number of photographs of the objects have been reproduced in the book, some reportedly taken by reputable persons. Many reported sightings are from atomic and missile research areas."
This particular document is compelling because, not only does it show that the FBI was interested in what an author had written in a book about UFOs, but also that the claims presented - which echo many of the reports still emerging today - were being taken quite seriously.
It also shows how the FBI was keeping tabs on what might be influencing public perception of UFOs.
