Thieves have made off with an extremely large quantity of Kit Kat bars - and it's just before Easter.
We've certainly heard of crooks targeting armored cars carrying gold bullion or other valuables, but this is the first time we've heard of a truck full of chocolate bars being targeted.
According to reports, a large lorry filled with 413,793 Kit Kats (12 tons of them) recently left the production facility in Italy en route to Poland where the bars would have then been distributed across Europe.
Instead, however, the lorry never arrived and the whereabouts of the merchandise remains a mystery.
With Easter just around the corner, the timing is particularly bad and could lead to a shortage of the popular double-fingered chocolate wafers biscuits at a critical time for Nestle.
It is thought that the Kit Kats are likely to start showing up on the market through unofficial channels, though customers can scan the barcode to find out if theirs is from the stolen batch.
"Whilst we appreciate the criminals' exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes," a spokesman said in a statement.
"With more sophisticated schemes being deployed on a regular basis, we have chosen to go public with our own experience in the hope that it raises awareness of an increasingly common criminal trend."
