This story was submitted to the site by Mickey from Bellingham, Washington.
I lived in Bellingham Washington when this event happened to me, I don't know the exact dates and times. You must first know that I'm not, nor have I ever been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder of any kind. I don't do recreational drugs either.
I was alone, heading north, to work in my 1990 Ford Escort, on Interstate 5, about 9:00 am. I had and still have to this day, an 1,100 watt stereo system, but for some reason at this time I just didn't feel like hearing it, so it was off. I had passed the Airport Dr Exit for a bit and was about half way to the Axton Rd / Main St Exit 260 when all of a sudden I clearly hear this man's voice say “Get off at the next gas station”. I instantly got scared at this point because I knew I was alone while I'm driving. I replied, “Hello! Is anybody there”? There was no answer.
I looked at my watch and realized I was actually running a bit early to work and I thought to myself, the voice didn't sound threatening, nor did it seem to be asking me to do something that would be harmful. Even though it's actually one exit sooner than the one I normally take, I can just take a different side road to work. So I made the decision to get off on that exit. I pulled into the gas station and parked my car on the side of the building. A minute passes and I hear this voice say “Go inside”. Again, it sounded safe, so I went inside. I walked in, took a few steps and stopped and said out loud, now what? This voice tells me “Buy a bag of chips”. So I go over and grab a bag of Funnions, walk over to the register, the man rings me up, I pull out my wallet and pay with the only $10 I had. As I'm stuffing the change into my wallet, I start to get this upset feeling because this stupid voice just conned me into buying a bag of chips and this was seriously my lunch money for the rest of the week and I'm hypoglycemic, so I HAVE to have food.
So I'm putting my wallet away while holding my bag of Funnions and as I look down on the floor, as I'm walking out, there is a $20 bill on the floor. I picked it up and walked out. I think most people would be scared from hearing voices and while this was the first and only time that I experienced such a thing, I always hope to hear it again. Only I hope to hear it tell me “Buy a lottery ticket”.
