A new startup company outside of Los Angeles has developed a biosolids to energy conversion facility capable of turning ordinary human waste in to a type of fuel that is 95% solid and that can used as a substitute for coal.
Fifty miles east of Los Angeles, a small and inconspicuous facility is using something most of us would rather not think about -- household sewage -- to create a resource we can't live without -- fuel."

I know it's not quit the same thing but back in the early 90's a company took the left overs from cheese making (Whey) and drying it produced the high Glucose/protein supplement now used in human and animal processed feeds. Up to that point the Whey was dumped or a company was paid to dispose of it. But after the drying process was perfected the cheese companies decided their waste was a SELLABLE Commodity and started charging the manufacturers. This , plus the rise in fuel costs almost broke the company. Now is this going to happen here as well. All communities instead of spending money on Wa... [More]

Biosolids has to be one of the best euphemisms for poop I've ever heard.

could you do the same for dead bodies i mean converting a carcass into fuel. We need a place to bury thye dead why not burn them and convert them to energy. But yeah the poo thing is cool maybe they can make a car that runs on biosolids so when you are driving and need to go you pull over to the side of the road pull out a bucket and funnel and yeah but if planes run on biosolids it would give new meaning to "dumping fuel"

The Top 6 Ways to Convert Poop Into Electricity Poop-Eating Bacteria Digesters similar to brewery casks house anaerobic bacteria that eat sludge and belch out methane. This technology is the oldest, cheapest, and most proven poop-to-power method. Even so, fewer than 10 percent of the nation's 6,000 public wastewater plants have the digesters; of those, just 20 percent burn the methane gas for energy (the rest simply flare it off). Flint, Michigan, and several other cities use the methane gas to fuel fleets of city buses. The problem with anaerobic digesters is that they only reduce sludge's vo... [More]
