Crowds of New Agers have travelled to Bugarach in France awaiting rescue by a UFO on December 21st.
Those attending share the belief that the world will end on December 21st and that a UFO will turn up at Pic de Bugarach on that day to rescue them. Over 20,000 pilgrims have already arrived in the area with many more expected over the coming months. Local authorities are on alert in fear of a mass suicide like that of the Heaven's Gate cult in 1997, an incident in which 39 members killed themselves in the belief that their souls would join an alien spacecraft following the Comet Hale-Bopp.
Thousands of "New Agers" are flocking to the village of Bugarach in France to prepare for the end of the world on December 21. The people are expecting that aliens will come to save them from doomsday apocalypse by beaming them aboard their spaceships.

Also Bugarach is in the South of France it'z freaking cold out there in the winter, so if switch your beer with hot toddies and if your chairs are heated then count me in. Hey Paracelse, I was wondering when you would weigh in here. See, I'm thinking if I'm going to go to the trouble of making popcorn, then a local with a webcam who can bring us the action live on the net would be a good thing - hmm, are there any french locals here on UM?.

As far as I know I'm the only local (to a point) I live about 900kms from Rennes le Chateau so it's 550 miles. Since I'm not into slapstick comedy, I doubt going to Bugarach on December 21 just for a laugh Although it would certainly be worth it. If I do go this summer I will take my camera and send the pictures on flickr. :d... [More]

Though I believe in alien life forms the idea of them coming to rescue us is proposterious. No alien in their right mind would save a species that kills off other species and always looking for dominace. Also the world isn't ending I suggest reading this http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/viewnews.php?id=226921
